LOST IN SPACE

Aazaad is stranded on something that looks and feels like a planet. But he couldn’t be sure. He contacts NASA and this is what their correspondence looks like:

@Aazaad:

Hey, so I’m stuck.

@NASA:

What do you mean you’re stuck?

@Aazaad:

I mean I’m lost!

@NASA:

Wait a minute, you shot off into space on a whim TO in fact, get lost. And now you’re worried about it?

@Aazaad:

I’m not worried, I’m just wondering if where I’m stuck has potential for other people to be stuck in as well!

@NASA:

Well, depends what you mean by “potential”. What are we looking at looking into? Soil Quality? Water? Aliens?

@Aazaad:

Everything!

@NASA:

We can’t simply go after everything at once. It takes years to craft a mission that is specifically curated to find answers to one thing. The budgets are tight and the focus has to be absolutely on point for the answers to be a strong lead.

@Aazaad:

Hmm…Anything in the offing?

@NASA:

We want to go everywhere.

@Aazaad:

Umm…It’s a big solar system out here. And you just said you don’t have the budget for it all.

@NASA:

There are quite a few compelling destinations beyond Europa and Mars. We could find ourselves sending flagships to Venus. And the ice giants: Uranus and Neptune.

@Aazaad:

I could be on Neptune because it’s kind of cold here.

@NASA:

We’re rooting hard for Neptune.

@Aazaad:

But?

@NASA:

But there’s really no telling if our budgets will be approved or if ever!

@Aazaad:

What do you mean? We want to know if life is possible elsewhere in the solar system, don’t we?!

@NASA:

We do. Almost desperately so. Alas! Science doesn’t exist in a world of its own. It’s for everyone to participate in.

@Aazaad:

I suppose everything isn’t as scientific as we’d like for it to be.

@NASA:

Yup. Where there are people, there’s politics.

@Aazaad:

And a clash of ideas?

@NASA:

The clash is sometimes good because it gives us perspective; a sense of priorities even. We have more clarity on how best to use limited resources. It gives rise to ingenuity. Which is what we’re always after.

@Aazaad:

Of course. But we don’t have answers…

@NASA:

Not yet, we don’t. We’re just about gathering the right questions.

@Aazaad:

I guess I’ll just freeze here while the world catches up…

@NASA:

Stay warm. We certainly need to stay heated enough to get to you soon.

@Aazaad:

I’m hopeful for humanity.

@NASA:

So are we Aazaad, so are we. Guided by science, curiosity and compassion, the journey into the future can’t be bad.

@Aazaad:

Amen to that.

Thank you Rahul Bhandare. But you created Aazaad. So it’s only expected that you speak for him every now and then. And you have all the ideas! So, please keep filling our heads with them!
