LETTER SIXTEEN

Prof. G,

I need this.
May be I’ve known all along and never really had the courage to go.
May be looking into the eyes of a child suffering scares me.
But I must look, in order to see…

I thought about what I could teach.
When I couldn’t think of anything, I thought about what I could give; what I could share.
STORIES.
I could tell stories.
And the kids could find their own lessons in them.

So, I’m going.
With a store of stories.
And I’m going to look into their eyes as I tell them.
I’m going to learn lessons myself as they tell me their own stories.
Stories of the village and childhoods spent in struggle, strife and bliss – all in equal measure.

Amid our exchanges,
Languages will strengthen.
And lessons will be learned organically!

Because you asked, my curriculum is brimming with stories.
And the plan is to dive deep into the heartland of Saurashtra in Gujarat in India, by looking into the eyes of every village child I tell these stories to.
The Soul I’m searching for; the Hope I’m missing, is there.
It’s there! It’s there!
And I’m almost there!

Thank you for “covering me in sunshine”.
I’m off.
And I’m carrying it with me.

X.
